Steamboat Springs wrapped up the 112th Winter Carnival with horses and kids racing down Lincoln Avenue this weekend. The Night Extravaganza at Howelsen Hill featured skiers and snowboarders from Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, the Lighted Man, and plenty of fireworks to thousands in attendance.
The Steamboat Springs School District Board of Education meets at 4:30 p.m. today at Steamboat Springs Middle School.
The Moffat County Board of County Commissioners meets at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. On the agenda, a Treasurer’s Report, an update from Planning & Zoning, and Road and Bridge.
The Humane Society of Moffat County is in need of a few things. The animal shelter in Craig needs canned cat food, bleach, and Arm & Hammer Oxi Clean powder laundry detergent. Dropoff locations are at Bear Creek Animal Shelter, or Craig Storage.
The Nordic Combined Team for the Junior World Championships is well represented with Steamboat Springs athletes. In Nordic Combined, it’s Ella Wilson, Haley Brabec, Arthur Tirone, and Ethan Maines. In Ski Jumping, it’s Jason Colby and Sawyer Graves. The Junior World Championships are Feb. 11-16 in Lake Placid, New York. Athletes from 21 countries will be there to compete.
Eighteen athletes have qualified for the 2025 Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined Junior National Championships, to be held Feb. 26-March 1 in Park City, Utah. The team was announced Friday night during Winter Carnival.
Piper Mouttet, Arthur Keller, Conner VanOveren, Langdon Devin, Kaden Graham, Austin Johnson, Charlotte Fleming, Everett Baldwin, Ella Wilson, Miles Warnke, Arthur Tirone, McKenzie Maines, Fritz Gamber, Haley Brabec, Ethan Maines, Sawyer Graves, Nico Bowdre, and Owen Trimble. The team was finalized at a Junior Championships Qualifier at Park City earlier this month. At that event, Miles Warnke took first, and MacKenzie Maines also took first place in their respective classes, with Langdon Devin in third.

Gigi Boyd of Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club is the winner of the Holeshot Cross Tour that was at Steamboat Resort this past week. It’s a Noram Snowboardcross circuit. Boyd is headed to Cortina, Italy this week for her first World Cup appearance.

Olympic Silver Medalist and Steamboat Springs High School graduate Class of 2014 Jaelin Kauf won the moguls and dual moguls at a World Cup competition in Deer Valley. Olivia Giaccio who also competed for Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club took third.
