The Oak Creek Kodiaks wrapped up had a successful weekend, and season, at the Colorado Extreme Hockey Tournament in Craig. Both the 10U and 12U teams took home the titles in their divisions. Details are below.

Oak Creek Kodiaks Dominate Colorado Extreme Tournament as Both 10U and 12U Teams Take Home Titles, Capping off a Stellar Season
Craig, CO – March 9, 2025 – The Oak Creek Kodiaks youth hockey program celebrated a double victory today as both their 10U and 12U teams captured titles in the Colorado Extreme Hockey Tournament over the weekend in Craig. Comprised of teams from across northwest Colorado and eastern Utah, the Kodiaks showed that they are not to be messed with. This marks a spectacular conclusion to their season, showcasing the hard work, dedication, and talent of these young people. Coach Chris Hagen commented “These players and parents have given so much this season to this team, its incredible to see both teams come home with titles!”
The Kodiaks 10U team was dominant, going 4-0 in the tournament. Coach Zack Schafner said “This was the most complete effort I have seen from this team all season and they really came to play this weekend. It was a culmination of all the effort and hard work they have put in. I’m incredibly proud of these players!” Their determination and tenacity was evident every step of the way, leading them to a well-deserved victory.
The 12U team overcame an early loss against their rivals from Vernal, UT by defeating them in the final 4-2 to take home their title. The character of this team is second to none, and that showed today. Coach Kyle Pastor said “The grit and reliance of this team is like nothing I have ever seen. They inspire me with every shift!”
Chris Hagen, 10U/12U Coach and Youth Development Director was buzzing, saying, “These teams and this association are different than any team I have ever been a part of. They put in 110% to every aspect of their lives on and off the ice. They are amazing hockey players, amazing teams, and, most importantly, amazing people. I feel lucky to be their coach and I’m beyond words about their success this weekend.”
The tournament victory in Craig serves as a fitting end to a successful season for the Oak Creek Kodiaks. The teams have not only honed their skills but also developed valuable life lessons in teamwork, sportsmanship, and perseverance.
The Oak Creek Kodiaks program would like to thank the coaches, parents, volunteers, and supporters who have contributed to the teams’ success. The support of the community has been invaluable in fostering the growth and development of these young people.
The Oak Creek Kodiaks youth sports program is committed to providing a positive and enriching experience for young athletes in Routt County. The program focuses on developing character though the game of hockey, by instilling the values of being good people, being good in your community, and being good hockey players.
