The U.S. Forest Service office in Steamboat Springs has closed, until further notice. That office is at 925 Weiss Drive. Visitor information, such as maps, access locations, and recreation site status must be done online or on the phone, at 970-870-2299. This is also where appointments with local Forest Service staff can be made. The Forest Service office in Yampa is still available.
The U.S. Forest Service did announce that hours would be cut back, back in late December due to staffing.

Front desk closed at Forest Service office in Steamboat Springs
Visitor services at the office front desk are unavailable, however, Forest information may be obtained online or via phone.
(STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo.) March 11, 2025 – Until further notice, visitor services at the USDA Forest Service (USFS) office front desk in Steamboat Springs, Colo., 925 Weiss Drive, are unavailable.
Visitor information, such as maps, access locations, and recreation site status may be obtained online or over the phone, (970) 870-2299. Appointments with local Forest Service staff for situation or project-specific topics may be made in advance by phone.
Camping and Rental Reservations, Firewood Permits, and Day-Use Passes (both single day and annual) may be obtained online.
Additional information may be found on the Forests’ website, X, and Facebook accounts.
The Forest Service office in Yampa, Colo., currently has public office availability, but it is recommended to call (970) 638-4516 for operational hours.
