Howelsen Hill’s 109th Winter Season Ends March 30
Ski Free Sunday & Rat Lake Pond Skim Celebrate Closing Day
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-March 10, 2025-All good things must come to an end and historic Howelsen Hill will celebrate the close of the 2024/25 winter season on Sunday, March 30, with the final Ski Free Sunday and Rat Lake Pond Skim.
“Mother Nature was again on our side this year, Tube Howelsen had another successful slide, and the hill hosted more than 50 on-snow races and events,” said Howelsen Hill Ski & Rodeo Manager Brad Setter. “Carl Howelsen would be proud of the passion and spirit that radiates from his namesake hill and how it serves as the community gathering place for so many people.”
On Closing Day, Steamboat Springs’ hometown hill will celebrate with a variety of entertaining activities both on and off the snow. On the final day, snow lovers will enjoy free skiing and riding as part of the ski area’s popular Ski Free Sunday program from 10am to 4 p.m. Simply visit the ticket office to claim your free ticket.
The Rat Lake Pond Skim Competition skims in for a third iteration from noon to 2 p.m. Advanced registration, a signed waiver, and a $5 entry fee (goes to Endowment Fund) are required to participate. Slots fill up as fast as the season goes by so don’t wait to secure your chance to skim or swim! Prizes will be awarded for best skims and costumes (highly encouraged).
The Outrun Snack Bar will feature end-of-season food and drink specials all day and the grill will be heating up with burger and brat deals while they last. Quench your thirst at the outdoor bar with deals on specialty cocktails, well and house wines, margaritas, and beer. Play yard games and dance away the season with live music throughout closing day.

Howelsen Hill Ski Area is owned and operated by the City of Steamboat Springs and is a skiing institution across the community, Colorado, and North America. Skiing since 1915, the ski area has been the training ground for 100 Winter Olympians, 33 members of the Colorado Ski Hall of Fame, 15 members of the National Ski Hall of Fame, athletes from the acclaimed Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club and generations of families.

Para participar es necesario inscribirse con antelación, firmar una renuncia y abonar una cuota de inscripción de 5 $ (que se destinarán al Fondo de Dotación). Las plazas se llenan tan rápido como la temporada, así que no espere para asegurarse su oportunidad de esquiar o nadar. Se concederán premios a los mejores skimmers y disfraces (muy recomendable).
El Snack Bar Outrun ofrecerá ofertas especiales de comida y bebida de fin de temporada durante todo el día, y la parrilla se calentará con ofertas de hamburguesas y salchichas mientras duren. Sacia tu sed en el bar al aire libre con ofertas en cócteles especiales, vinos de la casa y de la casa, margaritas y cerveza.
