Craig Fire Rescue responded to a fire Monday night on North Yampa Ave. No one was home at the time and it is under investigation.
Mike Camblin of Maybell in Moffat County has been appointed by Governor Polis to the Colorado Water Conservation Board. The board was created in 1937 for the purpose of aiding in the protection and development of the waters of the state. Camblin will serve as a representative of the Yampa-White Drainage Basin through February 2028.
Three properties in Routt County have been added to the Routt County Register of Historic Properties. They are the Deerfoot A-Frame on Deerfoot Avenue in Steamboat Springs, built in 1959. The Cow Creek Ranch was homesteaded starting in 1911. The Campbell/Zimmerman House on 8th Street in Steamboat Springs was built in 1900. It is home to the Tread of Pioneers Museum now.

The City of Steamboat Springs has been awarded a grant for $1,440,076 to purchase 181 acres along Slate Creek. It’s through a Great Outdoors Colorado grant from their Land Acquisition program. This is property west of Steamboat Springs, near the Brown Ranch property. Part of the property will be developed into a park and recreation area with playgrounds, fields, and trails.
Local support for this project comes from organizations such as the Yampa Valley Housing Authority, Steamboat Soccer Club, Yampatika Environmental Education, and Routt County Riders, among others.

Local governments and community partners in the Yampa Valley are considering forming a Regional Transportation Authority. This is for Routt and Moffat counties. The next meeting is at 6 p.m. tonight in the Town of Yampa Boardroom. Thursday night is a meeting at 6 p.m. in the Town of Hayden Council Chambers.

Tonight is a big celebration at Howelsen Ice Arena for the State Champion Steamboat Sailors Hockey Team and the 19U Steamboat Stampede Girls State Championships team. Banners will be raised in the rink. All are invited.
The Tracks & Trails Museum in Oak Creek has a presentation tonight called, “The Sin Circuit.” It’s at 5:30 p.m. at the museum on Main Street in Oak Creek. The discussion is on the historic bars and red light districts of Routt County. And it’s free.
A new playground is being planned for Emerald Park. An open house to discuss the plans is tonight at 5 p.m. in the Community Room at Howelsen Ice Arena.
Memorial Regional Health in Craig is hosting this month’s Community Conversations. The subject is “Pickleball & Prevention: Stay in the Game!” Dr. Jay Thompson with Steamboat Orthopaedic and Spine Institute is an orthopedic surgeon leading the discussion. It’s at noon on Thursday, March 20, in the MRH Conference Rooms.
