Two local students were recognized for their role with the local Civil Air Patrol on Tuesday night.
Graham Smith is a freshman at SoRoCo High School. Lucas Froman is a freshman at Steamboat Springs High School. They were honored with the Brigadier General Billy Mitchell Award, meaning they have been promoted to a cadet officer.
Both Smith and Froman will now lead and serve junior-raking cadets.
The Brigadier General Billy Mitchell Award honors a fearless pilot whose patriotism, foresight, and tenacity surpassed the ridicule he faced. The awards were presented by Yampa Valley Regional Airport Director Kevin Booth.
The local Civil Air Patrol is an auxiliary of the United States Air Force. The Steamboat Springs Composite Squadron is for young adults between the ages of 12 and 21. They meet on Tuesday evenings at the FBO building of the Steamboat Springs (Bob Adams) Airport.
