Raccoons are testing positive for canine distemper in southwest Colorado. While distemper hasn’t shown up here, Colorado Parks and Wildlife reminds residents to get your pets vaccinated because distemper can transfer from wildlife to dogs, and avoid touching or ever feeding wildlife.
Also be aware that raccoons will soon be trying to get into attics and roofs to give birth to their kits. Check your yard to make sure trees or branches aren’t leaning against the roof to give raccoons easy access, as they will pull apart siding and screens to get in.
