The last day of the ski season is this Sunday. Steamboat Resort has honored several employees, as the season winds down. Neill Redfern is the Employee of the Year for SnowSports, Heidi Barbee is the Employee of the Year for Events, and the Leader of the Year is Pete Blei from Finance.
Celebrate Pete Van De Carr and his legendary contribution to our community with a special Ski For Pete evening run on Wednesday, April 16 loading the gondola at 5:15 p.m. Mountain Operations will do a special groom after the resort closes for Pete’s run. All participants are asked to ride up the gondola, instead of skinning up to avoid operating machinery. The run will be followed with a special toast to Pete on the stage in Steamboat Square.

The Crane Nest Camera is live-streaming again. It is focused on a crane nest in the Yampa Valley and can be viewed from the Colorado Crane Conservation Coalition website or YouTube channel. It is believed to be the returning cranes, named Rocky and Adrian.
The Town of Yampa has a board meeting at 6 p.m. today. Routt County Commissioner Tim Redmond will have an update from the Northwest Colorado Development Council. Yampa Fire Protection District also has an update. There is also a presentation on the possibility of forming the Yampa Valley Transportation Authority.

The Moffat County Board of County Commissioners meets with Stephanie Einfeld, CEO of NW CO Health today, for a presentation on the future of Home Health and Hospice.
A local middle school competition for the National Civics Bee is in Steamboat Springs tonight. It’s at 5:30 p.m. at the STARS Ranch, 35465 U.S. Highway 40. It’s a live quiz event, where students will answer questions from judges to test their civics knowledge. There are 16 students from Steamboat Springs Middle School, Sleeping Giant School, and homeschool students from Craig. Finalists will compete in Denver on May 30, with a chance to compete in Washington DC in the fall. The event is hosted by the Craig Chamber of Commerce.
The Craig Rotary has extended their application for the Rotary’s Leadership Youth Award Camps and Young RYLA camps to April 30. These are leadership programs for 10th through 12th grade students, where the Young camps are for 7th graders. All expenses are paid by the Craig Rotary chapter. The American Legion Post in Steamboat Springs is offering to send local young men from Routt County, completing their junior year of high school, to Colorado Boys State. It is June 1-7 in Sterling, Colo. The American Legion will pay for the tuition. Applications are due by Friday, April 25. Apply through COLegionBoysState.org Application Link
