1. Wolf runs across a snow-covered field in British Columbia as a helicopter flies overhead during capture operations in January 2025.

Another gray wolf, brought to Colorado from Canada, has died. Colorado Parks and Wildlife received a mortality alert last Friday from the GPS collar, that the female wolf died in Rocky Mountain National Park. U.S. Fish & Wildlife is investigating. No other details are being released on how the wolf died.

The plywood façade in front of the Veterans Center building on Lincoln Ave. came down on Thursday. The building, which was built in 1898, has been undergoing a $3 million renovation. Kent Frederickson has been overseeing the project for the Veterans Center.

“So today is a really exciting day for us. This building really reflects our recognition of those who came before us, the veterans who were here and have been here. Then the building itself will then serve our veterans going forward.”

Forty percent of the building front from 1915 was rehabilitated for the new front. It will be painted a cream and gray color next week. The grand opening is scheduled for 4th of July, right after the parade.

Temperatures have been warming up which has taken a toll on snowpack in the state. Here’s Brian Lazar with the Colorado Avalanche Information Center.

“And as we head towards the end of April and into May, we are sitting at 70% of long-term median which is not great news for our water supply here.”

Lazar says some stormier and more unsettled weather headed our way in the next week or two.

He says the good freezes at night have helped with the current avalanche danger.

“And this has allowed us to essentially move to low danger which means generally safe avalanche conditions across all of the mountain areas of Colorado and right now Mother Nature is cooperating with generally safe avalanche conditions.”

If you have any doubt, check the Colorado Avalanche Information Center website at Colorado.gov/avalanche.

Holiday lights on Lincoln Ave. in downtown Steamboat Springs are being removed this weekend. There will be some parking lane closures on both sides of the road. Expect some traffic delays.

“My favorite part about AG Day is seeing all the animals and learning more. Like cows, horses, and pigs, and sheep and goats.”

About 160 kids from Sandrock, Sunset, Ridgeview, Maybell and the Homeschool Club learned about agriculture, from Moffat County Cattlewomen and FFA kids from Moffat County High School.
