The City of Steamboat Springs Water District is replacing water meters that are three years old or older, to minimize water loss. This is only in the city water district and does not include Steamboat II and Mount Werner Water and Sanitation. Keystone Utility Systems will be in touch with property owners to schedule a time and date for the meter exchange. It should take about an hour. Replacement starts April 28, the week after spring break. It is mandatory and it is free.

City Water Meter Replacement Starts April 28

Mandatory Requirement and No Cost to Customer

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-April 14, 2025-The City of Steamboat Springs Water District is replacing water meters that are three years or older to minimize water loss and conserve the valley’s precious water commodity.

“It is a mandatory requirement to have qualifying meters replaced during this project,” said Distribution and Collection Manager Michelle Carr. “Water meters, like any equipment, wear out and meter technology constantly evolves, necessitating replacement.”

Water meters are crucial for accurately measuring water consumption, enabling efficient water management, detecting leaks, and promoting responsible water usage, ultimately benefiting both individuals and the environment. In addition, accurate water readings are essential for the district to plan for water distribution and treatment needs.

This project applies only to the city water district and does not include properties within Mount Werner Water & Sanitation or Steamboat II Metro Districts. Keystone Utility Systems, contracted to complete this project for the city, has done previous work for the water district and is very competent at meter replacement.

Property owners will be contacted by Keystone to schedule a date/time to perform the meter exchange, which is anticipated to take an hour. Please watch for correspondence and calls from Keystone. The replacement project will begin after spring break, the week of April 28.

Questions on the replacement project may be directed to Distribution & Collection Manager Michelle Carr or Utility Meter Technician Justin Benson regarding the meter replacement project. General billing inquires can go directly to Utility Billing, 970-871-7016 by reached by email.
