Advocates Crisis, Trauma and Survivor Services (ACTSS) Announces Michaela Booco-Smith as Executive Director.  Michaela, who has served as the Crisis and Crime Director for the past several years, brings extensive leadership experience, a deep commitment to the local non-profit community, and a forward-thinking vision for ACTSS’ future.

 

Paving projects begin in Steamboat Springs today (Monday) and run through June 13. This week, milling and paving will be done on River Road, Critter Court, and Lithia Springs.

 

The Routt County Board of County Commissioners meets Monday morning. One agenda item includes a discussion on an Electric Vehicle readiness plan, which is in according with Routt County’s Climate Action Plan. Northwest Colorado Health has a Home Health Program presentation. Yampa Valley Sustainability Council also has a status report from Ashley Dean, the Senior Manager for Collaborative Initiatives.

Yampa River Botanic Park is having a Fairy Garden contest. Builders must be under 12 years old. Designs cannot be larger than 18×18” square and 12” high. All fairy-inspired homes need to be made of natural materials like wood, sand, and stone. Themes are welcome, but not if they are religious or political. Here’s park director Jennifer MacNeil.

“Get creative. They can be fairies paddling canoes, fairy houses being protected by dragons, fairy houses with bridges and gardens. All kinds of things. It’s amazing to see what the kids come up with.”

Turn in your Fairy Garden by June 11. Judging is Friday, June 13 in the Children’s Garden. Submissions will be on display in the Fairy Garden Village at Yampa River Botanic Park all summer.

Today is Steamboat Springs High School Letter of Intent Day signing.  Those athletes headed to compete in college are:

Wylie Bonelli-Panzera, Lacrosse, Fort Lewis College

Jakob Ducklow, Ice Hockey, Paul Smith’s College

Campbell McLaren, Nordic Skiing, University of Vermont

Owen Warwick, Football, Lake Forest College

The signing is at 11:50 a.m. today (Monday) in the gym at the high school.

 

Howelsen Ice Arena re-opens today. The Summer Adult Hockey season starts at the end of the month. The Curling league is on Sunday nights, starting June 15. The Fourt First Responders ABC Hockey Tournament is this weekend.
