Colorado Department of Transportation and Mothers Against Drunk Driving have announced the winners of the 2025 Law Enforcement Champion awards for the Western Slope and Mountain regions. These awards focus on efforts to reduce impaired driving, increase the use of seat belts and reduce speeding. One officer from Northwest Colorado was honored. Officer Daniel Molina with the Craig Police Department has been recognized as the Outstanding Individual Dedicated to Occupant Protection.

This morning is the South Routt Elementary School Fun Run. About 150 kids will be running all through the streets of Yampa for this longstanding tradition in the community. The fire department, sheriff’s department, and Colorado State Patrol is expected to be there to escort the kids through Yampa.
Tonight in Yampa is the Spaghetti & Sweet Treats: Pasta-Party Dessert Dash. It’s from 4:30-8:30 p.m. at the Ladies Aid Hall in Yampa. It’s a fundraiser for the 4th of July fireworks in Yampa. Then at 5:30 p.m. tonight, it is the South Routt Elementary School Spring Concert.
Also in Yampa, the Community Food Pantry at Town Hall is in need of some nonperishable foods like soup, fruit, and personal care items. Dropoff is from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The Steamboat Springs High School Drama Troupe has a second night tonight for their one-act festival called SpringFest. It starts at 6 p.m. tonight at the high school.
Registration is open for the 36th Annual Y.E.S. Golf Tournament on Wednesday, June 4, at Rollingstone Golf Course. It’s presented by the Young Professionals Network and Steamboat Springs Chamber. Routt County Day of Caring is coming up May 21. That’s next Wednesday. United Way of the Yampa Valley says about 50 more volunteers are needed that morning to help with projects supporting local nonprofits in Routt County. This includes help in Hahns Peak, STARS Ranch, in Hayden and Oak Creek, and other nonprofits.
Last year, 342 volunteers helped with 28 projects, for 1026 hours of labor, saving local nonprofits $30,718.00 in labor costs.

The Steamboat Springs High School Girls Golf Team took second place at the CHSAA 3A Regional Golf tournament in Gypsum this week. Kaitlyn Grommeck shot 80 for the individual win. She will be joined by Katharina Cosby, Maddy Moline and Brynn Becker at the CHSAA 3A State Golf Championships in Greeley, May 19-20.
