The DUI Enforcement Team with Colorado State Patrol is headed to Routt County for the Memorial Day holiday weekend. Increased patrols will run Friday through Sunday. CSP says troopers will focus on the area’s major traffic arteries and feeder roads. Any dangerous driving behaviors that are observed or reported will be addressed.

In Routt County, between 2020 and 2024, Colorado State Patrol investigated 16 fatal crashes and 66 crashes that caused serious bodily injuries.

The leading factors for the crashes were lane violations, speeding, distracted driving, and impaired driving. State troopers will focus on drivers who may be impaired.

CSP asks to call State Patrol if you suspect an impaired driver. Dial *CSP, which is *277. Or call 970-249-4392. Be prepared with a description of the vehicle, license plate number, location and direction of travel, and a driver description if you have one. Calls can also be made to 9-1-1.

Colorado State Patrol’s DUI Enforcement Team Visits Routt County over Holiday Weekend

Multi-day operation focused on locating impaired drivers

(ROUTT COUNTY, COLO) The Colorado State Patrol will conduct increased patrols throughout Routt County for Memorial Day Weekend from Friday, May 23, 2025, through Sunday, May 25, 2025. In 2024, Memorial Day Weekend was the top holiday for DUI citations issued by the Colorado State Patrol.

This year’s operation specifically focuses on the area’s major traffic arteries and feeder roads. However, any dangerous driving behaviors observed or reported will be addressed. In Routt County between 2020 and 2024, the Colorado State Patrol investigated 16 fatal crashes and 66 crashes that caused serious bodily injury. Those numbers represent families that have been devastated by the loss of a loved one or have suffered severe trauma, some life-altering. Twenty-four of these tragedies occurred between 5 P.M. and 1 A.M. on Friday and Saturday nights.

The leading causal factors for these crashes were lane violations, speeding, distracted driving, and impaired driving. This special operation aims to stop impaired driving “in its tracks” to save lives. State troopers will focus on the detection and apprehension of drivers who may be impaired by or otherwise under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or a combination of these substances. So, don’t take a holiday from driving responsibly. Always make a plan for a sober ride.

We are asking the public for assistance in reporting suspected impaired drivers. The driver should be avoided by getting out of the way. Then, contact the Colorado State Patrol after you pull over by calling *CSP (*277), 9-1-1, or 970-249-4392. Be prepared to provide the following information: vehicle description, license plate number, location and direction of travel, driver description, and the driving behavior being demonstrated. All emergency calls can be made to 9-1-1.

Participating Agencies:

  • Colorado State Patrol – Statewide DUI Team
  • Colorado State Patrol – Troop 4B
