Sue Oehme, known for her technical mastery and creative expression, invites art enthusiasts to explore the intricate processes behind printmaking. “It’s not just about the art itself, but the process behind it,” says Oehme. The exhibition showcases various printmaking techniques, including etching, intaglio, woodblock printing, and monotypes, defining printmaking as both an art form and a technical discipline.
“Printmaking has such a rich history,” Oehme explains. “It connects the past with the present, and I’m excited to help more people understand the process and the passion behind it.” As a master printer and fine art publisher, Oehme collaborates with artists to bring their visions to life, emphasizing the educational aspect of the exhibition. “Printmaking is about creating original pieces. This isn’t digital printing; it’s a hands-on process that produces unique works collected as originals.”
Oehme, a Steamboat Springs resident, has curated a diverse collection of works that will highlight nearly 45 artists from around the country, including works by Fred Tomaselli, Leon Loughridge, Julia Fernandez Pol, Deborah Zlotsky, Patsy Krebbs and Eva Bovenzi, as well as local artists Shirley Stocks and Diane Cionni. The exhibition also delves into the history of printmaking, featuring diverse artists such as Frank Stella, Louise Fishman, Gutzon Borglum, Masami Teraoka, and Sol LeWitt.
In addition to this collection, Oehme’s own work is featured. Her work reflects her deep connection to nature and her exploration of themes such as hyper-consumerism. “Living in Steamboat has influenced my work profoundly,” she shares, “I aim to combine the beauty of the natural world with modern concerns.”
To honor the exhibition, a ticketed celebration dinner is scheduled for Saturday, June 21, 2025. Throughout the exhibition, attendees have the chance to engage with the art through various workshops, demonstrations, and artist talks. Admission to the Museum is free.
