Scam alert. This one is from the Department of Motor Vehicles. Colorado residents including in Routt and Moffat, and Grand counties, are getting text messages and emails that say you haven’t paid a traffic ticket or parking violations, or you haven’t registered your vehicle, and your driving privileges are being taken away. It’s a scam.
“Do not click on the link. Absolutely not. Do not click on the link.”
That’s Moffat County Clerk and Recorder Stacy Morgan.
Routt County Clerk & Recorder Jenny Thomas says their office has also been getting many calls about it.
“We just want to let everybody know that this is a scam. Don’t click the links. Department of Motor Vehicles is not going to be texting or emailing about unpaid traffic violations. It’s just really important to get the word out that this is a scam.”

Steamboat Springs Police says they’re concerned about electric motorcycles and dirt bikes. They’ve caused damage and youth have been fleeing from officers. They can only be operated with a valid license, registration and plates, and they must be insured. They are different from E-bikes which can only be operated on trails and sidewalks in Steamboat Springs. Anyone 15 or younger has to wear a helmet. No riding on sidewalks on Lincoln Ave. between 3rd and 12th.More on the Story — Steamboat Police are concerned about incidents with Electric Motorbikes and Motorcycles
The cow moose with two newborn calves that hurt two people in River Creek Park on Sunday has been relocated by Colorado Parks and Wildlife. Her two calves were taken with her. Here’s District Wildlife Manager David Rehak Suma from the Steamboat Springs south district.
“We’re really excited that the relocation went well this morning. We were able to get mom and her two calves together. We sedated the mom and then were able to just grab the two calves and then move them up to North Routt. We released them and then they reunited and they went off into happier trails together.”
The moose was monitored for 48 hours and CPW says they looked very comfortable at River Creek Park and they weren’t going to move on their own. So they were moved Wednesday morning. CPW says it’s for the safety of the three moose and the public.
The cow moose was tranquilized and put into a horse trailer. The two calves did not have to be sedated and they joined their mom in the trailer. The moose has been collared and will be monitored by CPW. They did not say where the moose were released.
The City of Steamboat Springs has reopened River Creek Park. But always be aware of moose signage and avoid an area if you see warnings that moose are in the area.

There is a virtual public hearing today with the Public Utilities Commission about the Just Transition process for the redevelopment of the Hayden Station, which has to close in 2027. It is a major employer in Hayden and Routt County. It involves how much Xcel will pay to the community of Hayden and Routt County to pay off outstanding debt for the closing of the Hayden Station. Hayden Mayor Ryan Banks is asking the residents to submit written comments to the PUC before 5 p.m. today, and join the virtual public hearing from 5-7 p.m. tonight. He says the right one-time deposit to the community could help pay off the outstanding debt for the Hayden School District, Fire District and Town of Hayden, and save homeowners an average of $1,300 per year.
