VFW Post 4265 in Craig is hosting an American flag retirement ceremony with the Moffat County Sheriff’s Office on Saturday. Flags have been collected.
VFW Commander Tara Garber says they’ll still take more flags to be retired and people are welcome to watch the ceremony at the Safety Center in Craig. Undersheriff Chip McIntyre offered to have it there.
“Only American flags get respectfully retired and honored by the VFW. The community is welcome to bring chairs because we’ve got probably over 300 flags already to retire.”
The flags will be burned completely, and the ash buried afterwards.
Flags can still be dropped off in the red box under the VFW flag at 419 E. Victory Way.
The flag retirement ceremony starts at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Moffat County Safety Center which is at 800 W. 1st Street in Craig.
