Steamboat Springs City Council has voted, 4-3, to approve $1.6 million to the Mad Rabbit Trails Project on Rabbit Ears Pass. Michael Woodbridge with the US Forest Service said they studied plans from across the country when making the plan for the Mad Rabbit Trails Project.
“We’ve pulled some other examples of adaptive management plans from other projects and used those to help build this adaptive management plan so we’ve gone above and beyond even the other adaptive management plans that are out there.”

Steamboat Springs City Council heard many public comments at their meeting last night, with a good amount of it about the Short-Term Rental Tax. Some residents spoke of how they had been informed of fees and license renewals in the past, but that stopped in 2023. Now, some are being charged $2,650 a day in penalties, some as much as for 91 days, but they say they weren’t notified. They want a discussion on how the city notifies property owners and a change on those fees. It will be discussed at the next City Council meeting.
