Three Routt County students recently competed in the 2025 4H Shooting Sports National Championships in Grand Island, Nebraska.
18-year-old Teagan Herald and 16-year-old Tirzah Herald live near Yampa. 16-year-old Mia Cranwell goes to SoRoCo High School.
In the .22 Small Bore Rifle Shooting category, Teagan took first place, Tirzah was third overall, and Mia was 10th, which put the team in first place at nationals overall. Mia finished 2nd place overall as national runner-up.
All three are members of the Handy Lads and Lassies 4-H Club and the South Routt Shooting Club. Coaches are Jason Cranwell. Rick Kirby helped get the team started.
Events:
- Day 1 – Silhouette shooting – Teagan 8th place, Team 5th place
- Day 2 – CMP shooting – Teagan 1st place, Tirzah 3rd place, Mia 10th place, Team 1st place
- Day 3 – 3P shooting – Mia 3rd place, Team 4th place
The three kids on the Routt County team were joined by another competitor from Durango. You’re only allowed to compete in one discipline at nationals at a time, and only once. The categories are: air rifle, air pistol, shotgun, archery, muzzleloading, .22 Small Bore Pistol and .22 Small Bore Rifle.
