The Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission meets at 12:30 p.m. Monday to specifically discuss the Copper Creek Pack of wolves and what to do with them. This was the pack that was killing multiple livestock in Grand County. They were captured by CPW and put in a sanctuary for about six months, and then re-released in Pitkin County in January, where they started killing livestock again. CPW did capture one of the wolves and killed it.

Monday’s meeting is online and no public comment is allowed.

Colorado Cattlemen and Middle Park Stockgrowers sent a strong letter last week to the commission which said they told CPW this would happen, when they went against their own wolf plan re-releasing depredating wolves. Holy Cross Cattlemen’s Association was also in on that letter, and they sent another one over the weekend. This letter asks that the pack be re-captured and moved back to a sanctuary, saying it is too little, too late, “And we see no end in sight.”

If the wolves can’t be recaptured, they are asking for a Chronic Depredation Permit, which is also the 10J Rule, which would give the ranchers the flexibility to respond “to the wolves’ escalating harassment and depredation of our livestock.” And they say that pack now has new pups.

It’s a 59-page document. The first 12 pages are in the link below.
