It’s time to clean up the Yampa River. Clean-up days are scheduled for Thursday in Hayden and Craig, and Saturday in Steamboat Springs. Here are the details and how you can help.
July 10
Friends of the Yampa presents Yampa River Cleanup in Craig and Hayden. It’s from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, July 10. Meet at Yampa River State Park at 5 p.m. west of Hayden, and at Loudy-Simpson Park at 5 p.m. in Craig. Wear good footwear and bring gloves. Expect mosquitos so bring some bug spray. Trash bags and pickup sticks will be provided.
July 12
The Annual Yampa River Clean-up Day in Steamboat Springs is this Saturday, July 12. It’s a community-wide effort with Friends of the Yampa, Yampa Valley Fly Fishers, and the City of Steamboat Springs. Check in at 9 a.m. at Little Toots Park, where you’ll get your assignment and clean-up supplies. Then enjoy lunch at 11:30 a.m. Register in advance if you can through the Friends of the Yampa website.

Annual Yampa River Clean-Up Set for Saturday, July 12
Community Volunteers Invited to Help Keep the River Clean and Healthy
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-July 8, 2025-The Friends of the Yampa, Yampa Valley Fly Fishers, and the City of Steamboat Springs are teaming up once again for the annual Yampa River Clean-Up, scheduled for Saturday, July 12, 2025. This community-wide effort helps protect the health of the Yampa River and inspires year-round stewardship of this vital natural resource.
The clean-up covers a wide stretch of the river—from the Chuck Lewis State Wildlife Area to the Steamboat KOA Campground—and includes 15 river segments along with several downtown tributaries. Each year, volunteers help remove trash and debris from the riverbanks, reinforcing the importance of keeping the Yampa clean, healthy, and trash-free.

- Check-In Location: Little Toots Park, 55 12th Street, downtown Steamboat Springs
- Celebration: 11:30 AM – Lunch, drinks, and music at Little Toots Park
Volunteers will check in at Little Toots Park starting at 9:00 AM, where they’ll receive safety instructions, river segment assignments, and clean-up supplies. Participants will return to the park by 11:30 AM for a celebratory lunch and refreshments.
To help streamline check-in and choose a preferred river stretch, volunteers are encouraged to register online by 2:00 PM on Friday, July 11. The registration portal includes location-specific details and important safety guidelines. Walk-up volunteers are also welcome and can get their assignment onsite the morning of the event.
What to Bring:
- Sturdy footwear for riverbank walking
- Work gloves and weather-appropriate clothing
- Long sleeves and bug spray (mosquitoes are common)
- Water bottle
- Trash bags and a limited number of pick-up sticks will be provided
