
The Routt County Board of County Commissioners meets this morning. The Routt County Board of Health is presenting their quarterly Public Health Update. That includes the hiring of a new community health specialist for tobacco… Colleen Garrecht-Connelly. A Tobacco policy is being coordinated with Steamboat Springs Police that will discuss the enforcement of sales of tobacco to minors. There will also be rabies awareness and a measles update, and a suicide data review. Commissioners will also hear about the success of the Gun Safe Distribution campaign. There were 280 safes distributed in Northwest Colorado.

The historic Hahns Peak Lookout in North Routt County is being restored by Historic Routt County and Rocky Mountain Youth Corps. The restoration to the building is being funded by the U.S. Forest Service. All wood will be sanded and stain, the wood stars and window trim will be repaired and the graffiti will be removed. The project begins today and should take a week.
The Hahns Peak Lookout was a stone shelter built in 1908, and then rebuilt in 1938. It was an Aircraft Warning site during World War II. It is now a permanent lookout tower.

The Routt County Wildfire Mitigation Council is hosting Wildfire Outreach Meetings. The first is tonight at North Routt Charter School in Clark. It starts at 6:15. The meeting will be to learn about programs the Routt County Wildfire Mitigation Council can offer to help you reduce your wildfire risk. RSVP through the Routt County Wildfire Mitigation Council website.
Watch for work up at the ski area this week. There may be impacts, detours and delays on certain trails like Sunshine Road. Routt County Riders is doing trail maintenance on Pete’s Wicked Trail. The Creekside bridge is being replaced starting today. Logging work also begins on Mahogany Ridge today. Please respect all signing and closures.

Work continues this week on Hwy 40 and Downhill Drive in West Steamboat. Concrete is being poured for the curb and gutter at the entrance to Yampa Valley Tire Pros. Waterlines are being installed on the north side of Hwy 40 for the next two weeks. Businesses on Downhill Drive will remain open. Expect some traffic delays.
