Veteran quarterback Teddy Bridgewater is expected to sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

A post from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport read: “The #Bucs are now signing QB Teddy Bridgewater to his 1-year deal after he passed his physical, source says. Kyle Trask will backup Baker Mayfield, but with Michael Pratt still not practicing, Bridgewater gives depth and a veteran presence in the QB room.”

Bridgewater, 32, played for six NFL teams from 2014 to 2024, compiling a 33-32 record with 15,120 passing yards and 75 touchdowns, and made the Pro Bowl after an 11-5 season with the Minnesota Vikings. He retired after a decade in the league and went on to coach his high school alma mater, Miami Northwestern, to the Class 3A Florida High School Athletic Association state title in 2024.

Bridgewater later came out of retirement to join the Detroit Lions in December 2024 to serve as Jared Goff’s backup. While he did not appear in a regular-season game, in the playoffs he completed his only pass attempt for 3 yards in a 45-31 loss against the Washington Commanders in the divisional round.

Last month, Bridgewater was suspended from Miami Northwestern after providing impermissible benefits to his players, which stemmed from a post Bridgewater put on Facebook on July 7 stating he covered Uber rides, meals and recovery services for his players last season and asked fans to donate and cover those expenses this year so they wouldn’t have to come directly from him. The post drew the attention of the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA), with an official, Kelvin Richardson, stating that those allegations were sent to Miami Northwestern and that the FHSAA is working to gain more information.
