The Moffat County Sheriff’s Office and Craig Police have updated the status of the Thirteen Fire, which was called in to the Craig Regional Communications Dispatch Center around 1:30 p.m. Sunday. The fire moved from a house to nearby grasses and field to becoming a fast-moving wildland fire.
Evacuations were ordered and have been lifted. About 55 residences were “under significant threat during the incident.”
The fire is 100% contained and has been reduced to an estimated 35 acres.
Four structures were lost including a residence, garage, and shed where the initial fire occurred. Another possible garage or shed has been lost.
Two Craig Fire & Rescue firefighters were transported to Memorial Regional Health and both have been released.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Press Release – Thirteen Fire Incident Summary
Craig, Colorado – August 10, 2025
The Moffat County Sheriff’s Office and Craig Police Department, in close coordination with Craig Fire and Rescue, are releasing the following information regarding the “Thirteen Fire” that occurred in Craig, Colorado, on August 10, 2025.
At approximately 1:30 p.m., the Craig Regional Communications Center began receiving reports of a structure fire in the 700 block of East 13th Street. Craig Fire and Rescue, Craig Police Department, and the Moffat County Sheriff’s Office responded immediately. The fire quickly spread to nearby fields, transitioning into a fast-moving wildland-urban interface fire.
Evacuations & Impact
- Evacuations were ordered at approximately 2:05 PM. All evacuation and pre-evacuation orders have since been lifted.
- An estimated 55 residences were under significant threat during the incident.
- The fire’s size has been reduced to an estimated 35 acres and is 100% contained.
Damage & Injuries
- Four structures were lost: three on the property where the initial fire occurred (a residence, garage, and shed) and another possible garage or shed near East 12th Street and Pine Street.
- Two Craig Fire & Rescue firefighters were transported to Memorial Regional Health for evaluation due to smoke inhalation and heat-related fatigue. Both were released after treatment.
- No other injuries have been reported.

Cause: The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Due to the extent of suppression efforts, determining an exact cause may be difficult.
