The Crosho Fire in South Routt County has burned just over 2,000 acres as of the last update on Sunday, with 5% containment. No structures have been damaged or destroyed, but 240 have been threatened.

The total number of personnel at the fire is at 321 on 11 crews, with four aircraft, four water tenders, four dozers, and three Type 4 engines and nine Type 6 engines.

Zones 3 and 4 have been downgraded to SET, and Zones 5, 7, 8, and 9 are under READY status.

Many who had been evacuated over the weekend were staying at the Routt County Fairgrounds in Hayden for the Routt County Fair. It was announced that the evacuations for Zones 4 and 5 were lifted, during the Junior Livestock Auction Saturday evening, to cheers from the crowd.

The Grand County Sheriff sends word that there will be zero-tolerance for those who are excessively speeding, driving aggressively, and illegally passing on state and county roadways and highways in Grand County. This after Grand County had six fatalities in less than a week this month. One was just north of Kremmling on Hwy 40, and the other was just south of Kremmling on Hwy 9, where a family of five died.

The sheriff’s office says drivers can be arrested, vehicles could be impounded or towed, and fines and penalties can be increased. The press release from Grand County Sheriff Brett Schroetlin says, “Don’t risk a life to save a minute.”

School buses will soon all be back in action for the first week of school in Steamboat Springs, Hayden, and South Routt. New this year, drivers who are approaching a school bus from an oncoming lane have to stop, unless there is a physical barrier separating the opposing directions of traffic. It can’t just be painted lines or a painted median.

The first day of school in the Steamboat Springs School District is Tuesday, Aug. 19. However, today, 9th graders have a full day and there is orientation for Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 6th graders.
