There’s a lot happening on this first full weekend in September.
Steamboat OktoberWest is Sept. 5-6. This year’s event is bringing back crowd favorites like the beef cookoff, beer garden, and plenty of family-friendly activities. On Friday, Sept. 5, the Young Professionals Network will host the Friday Beer Stroll at participating businesses downtown and on Sept. 6, the Steamboat Springs Chamber, Steamboat Mountain Village, and Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation will host the beer garden and vendor market, presented by Resort Group, at the base of Steamboat Resort.

The Showdown in the ‘Boat is Sept. 6-7 at Howelsen Hill. These are mountain bikers in the Colorado High School Cycling League who will be competing. Pre-rides o the course start Friday afternoon. Volunteers are always needed and there is a volunteer link on the ColoradoMTB.org website.
Today is First Friday Art Walk at galleries throughout downtown Steamboat Springs, and the Depot Art Center. This is a free, self-guided tour, from 5-8 p.m. tonight. The Meeker Classic Sheepdog Championship Trials continue through the weekend in Meeker. These are world-class dogs from all over the world, taking on the feistiest sheep in the west. The working dog competitions run through Sunday in Meeker. There’s also food and crafts, demos, and dog agility shows and a petting zoo. Everyone is invited. “Ride the Cog” is Routt County’s original gravel ride. It is Sunday, Sept. 7, starting at 8 a.m. in Hayden Town Park at 229 S. 3rd Street. Different route distances are available and mountain bike clinics for all levels. There is also a kid zone and Kids Bike Parade. Learn more at RideTheCog.com

Join Routt County Humane Society for a Pawty Animal Happy Hour in the Whiskey Garden at Mythology Distillery. It’s from 3-7:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7. It is a community celebration of canines and cocktails, with music from DJ Will Peddie. At 6 p.m. is a dog friendly competition with local comic Kyle Ruff of Steamboat Comedy. There is a Costume Contest, Dog Trick Contest and a Pup Cup Showdown. A $20 donation to Routt County Humane Society is suggested. In high school sports this weekend, first football…
The undefeated Steamboat Sailors football team has a bye this weekend, so they are not playing tonight.
Moffat County is on the road tonight, with a 7 p.m. game against Berthoud.
The Soroco Rams football team has a 1 p.m. game away today against Sangre de Cristo.
Hayden Tigers host Sargent at 7 p.m. tonight.
The Steamboat Sailors Girls Flag Football Team is away on Saturday with a game on the Front Range, against Elizabeth. The Steamboat girls team is the only girls flag football team on the Western Slope.
The Steamboat Cross Country team is on the road on Saturday with a meet against Eagle Valley. The Moffat County Bulldogs Cross Country team will also be there. That’s at the Siena Valley Club which is in Gypsum.
The Steamboat boys tennis team is also headed out of town today with a tennis tournament today and tomorrow in Grand Junction.
The Moffat County Bulldogs Boys Soccer team has a 1 p.m. game Saturday away, against Montezuma-Cortez.
There is a lot of girls volleyball happening in Oak Creek Saturday. The Rams are hosting a tournament and the Moffat County girls will be there.
The Moffat County Girls Softball team is headed to Loveland today and tomorrow for a tournament at the Barnes Softball Complex, hosted by Berthoud High School.
