Sharing Stories, Building Bridges: ‘At The Table’ Comes to Steamboat Springs on September 18th
This month, The Health Partnership invites the community to pull up a chair and listen—really listen. The annual event At The Table, held this year at the Steamboat Social Club, offers a powerful opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations with Change Leaders: individuals who have experienced poverty and its intersecting challenges firsthand and now use their experiences to inspire transformation.
With a choice of two sessions, either from 9-10:30 a.m. or 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m., attendees will rotate through three 20-minute conversations, each centered on a different topic. Topics include addiction, mental health, immigration, disability, food insecurity, and more. The format is simple but profound: small-group dialogue, guided by those whose stories challenge assumptions and spark empathy.
Now in its second year in Steamboat Springs, At The Table is locally hosted by The Health Partnership, bringing together residents, service providers, and community leaders for powerful conversations rooted in lived experience. The event is part of a growing national movement led by Think Tank, Inc. in collaboration with partner organizations across the country. While each location brings its own unique voice, the shared mission remains the same: to foster empathy, challenge assumptions, and build stronger, more compassionate communities—one story at a time.
Last year’s participants described the event as a time to share stories and perspectives. For many, the experience was deeply personal. One Change Leader shared, “I think there’s so much power in sharing your story—whether you’re a survivor or someone facing inherited challenges. I shared my story of surviving domestic violence, and in the past, that’s helped others in their own situations. I hope I did that again today.”
The overwhelming sentiment from guests was one of gratitude and hope. “I had the pleasure to listen and connect with people who genuinely use their life stories to affect change,” said one attendee. “It was a new experience.”
This year’s event promises to build on that momentum, offering a live, engaging opportunity to foster community and compassion. Whether you’re a policymaker, educator, or simply a curious neighbor, At The Table offers more than just dialogue—it offers a transformative space where challenging topics are explored openly, lived experience is honored, and every story becomes a bridge toward empathy, understanding, and meaningful change. Seating is limited, and early registration is encouraged.
