Photo courtesy CPW.Colorado Parks and Wildlife has confirmed adult zebra mussels in the Colorado River near Grand Junction and in a nearby lake there. This is an Aquatic Nuisance Species (ANS). Several bodies of water in that area are closed to try to contain and mitigate the zebra mussel infestation.






Routt County Board of County Commissioners has their regular meeting today.
Steamboat Springs City Council meets at 4 p.m. this afternoon. Council will proclaim Arbor Day for this Friday. Reports are on the 2026 Chamber Destination Stewardship Proposal, the Steamboat Springs Education Fund Board update, and the Routt County Economic Development Partnership.
The City of Steamboat Springs is taking applications for City 101. It’s a series of tours, forums, and hands-on activities to learn how the different departments in the City of Steamboat Springs work, and work together with teamwork and planning. Sessions are typically on Wednesdays, starting in early December through the end of May. Apply through SteamboatSprings.net/City101.

Applications are also being accepted for three open seats on the Golf Management Committee for the City of Steamboat Springs. It’s a citizen group that helps guide management and operations at Haymaker Golf Course. Apply by Oct. 13, through the city’s website.

Tanner Stillwell has been named as the new head men’s basketball coach for Steamboat Springs High School. Stillwell is the Executive Director of High Altitude Basketball and a graduate of Steamboat Springs High School Class of 2007, where he was a former Athlete of the Year for the Sailors. He has been with the Sailors as an assistant coach and now takes on the job as head coach.
“Super excited to shift over to the head coaches’ chair and excited at the challenge and the opportunity. The group of boys that we have, I’m just stoked about. It’s a mix of emotions, mostly excited, and looking forward to this opportunity.”
Steamboat Ski Resort has hired a new Director of Facilities and Construction. Aaron Shaffer will oversee the planning, development, and construction of projects at the resort. He’s moving to Steamboat Springs from the Front Range and starts work in his new role on Sept. 22.
