Pine Grove Road at the Highway 40 intersection will be closed from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday. Detour signs are in place there. Plan on extra time if you’re in that area.

 

The South Routt School District has entered an agreement for two to three housing units to be made available for district staff. The agreement is with the developer of the Happy Lane area in South Routt County. If more units are built, the South Routt District has first right of refusal.

 

 

Rob Peterson will be the new executive director for Routt County Riders. He’s been on the board for 10 years, and has been with Big Agnes for the past 13 years. Peterson is replacing Laraine Martin who has been executive director of Routt County Riders for the past six years. Routt County Riders is a nonprofit organization that focuses on all things cycling related in Northwest Colorado.

 

United Way of the Yampa Valley’s biggest donation fundraising event across the Yampa Valley is today. Every dollar raised supports those in Routt, Moffat, and Rio Blanco counties. The $50K Day in Steamboat is at BMO Bank at 555 Lincoln Ave. $20K Day in Craig is at Bank of Colorado at 250 W. Victory Way. Free burritos when you stop by.

Celebrate Arbor Day in Steamboat Springs, which is proudly recognized as a Tree City USA Community. Stop by West Lincoln Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 19 for a ceremonial tree planting, interaction demonstrations and more.

 

The Steamboat Swings dance group is hosting a public social dance from 6-10 p.m. Friday night, Sept. 19, in Library Hall at Bud Werner Memorial Library. Two National Champion West Coast Swing instructors will be at the event to teach two-step, waltz, Latin dances and more. The Harvest Dance event is co-sponsored by Steamboat Dance Theatre.

 

Saturday…

This is the last Saturday for the Steamboat Springs Farmers Market for the summer season. It is also Plein Air Art Week. Close to 50 Plein Air artists will be painting from 9-11 a.m. in the middle of the Farmers Market Saturday, and you can buy their art when they’re finished. Then on Sunday, more plein air artists will be at Steamboat Resort, at the base and at the top of the gondola, painting throughout the day.

 

Learn more about Electric Vehicles at an EV 101 Workshop and Ride & drive event. The workshop is at 9 a.m. at Howelsen Ice Arena. Then you can test drive some electric vehicles from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. from the Howelsen Hill Rodeo Grounds parking lot. Sign up here for a test drive

 

The 5th Annual Airport Appreciation Day is from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday, Sept. 20, at Bob Adams Field. There will be displays and flight simulator demos and a Family Fun Run on the runway at 11 a.m.

 

 

September is National Recovery Awareness Month. Several local groups are sponsoring a Rally for Recovery on Saturday at Gardner Field at Steamboat Springs High School. Registration starts at 9 a.m. and the Walk is at 10 a.m. followed by a Resource Fair. It’s a $5 donation to walk. Find out more at LoveLifeSteamboat.com Also, no dogs please.

Those groups sponsoring the event include The Travis House and The Love Life House, sober living homes for men and women, as well as The Healing Unscripted Podcast which focuses on mental health needs and resources available throughout the Yampa Valley, and Sk8 Church, serving at risk kids.

 

 

Have fun at the Fall Fest in downtown Craig at Alice Pleasant Park. Don’t miss the Cornhole Tournament. Registration is at 1 p.m. Bags fly at 2 p.m. Reach out to KS Kreations in downtown Craig if you would like to be a vendor for the event.

 


The Fast and the Furriest 5K9 Doggie Fun Run and Walk is Saturday, Sept. 20 at Howelsen Hill. The Routt County Humane Society is hosting the 5K fundraiser event, which is open to all two- and four-legged participants. Register as an individual or as a team. Costumes are encouraged with categories such as:

  • Most Four-Legged Run/Walkers
  • Best Dog/Human Costume Duo
  • Best Team Costume

Before the 5K9 run/walk is the Tennis Ball Drop where hundreds of tennis balls roll down the 30-meter ski jump at Howelsen Hill. If your ball lands in the goal net, you’ll win a prize. Balls are $5 each and you do not need to be present to win.

The Hahns Peak Schoolhouse Community Dance is from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20. There will be live music and dancing and a sweet treat potluck. Donations will benefit the Moonhill and Hahns Peak Schoolhouses.

 

In sports…

 

It’s Homecoming for the Moffat County Bulldogs. The Homecoming Parade is at 1 p.m. today. The football game is at 7 p.m. tonight against Grand Valley. The Girls Volleyball team hosts Grand Valley on Saturday, with Varsity playing at 1 p.m.

 

The undefeated Steamboat Sailors football team has a bye this weekend.

 

Celebrate Steamboat Springs High School Volleyball Coach Wendy Hall this Saturday, Sept. 20, as she is retiring from coaching after 39 years. It’s Wendy Hall Day. Speakers will thank Wendy for all that she’s done after the 1 p.m. Varsity game in a special retirement celebration.

 

The SoRoCo Rams have a home volleyball match against Rangely tonight. Varsity starts around 5:30 p.m. The Rams football team also plays Rangely at home tonight in Oak Creek. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

 

The Hayden High School Girls Volleyball team has a home match against Grand Valley, starting at 11 a.m. Saturday.
