Three Steamboat Springs tennis players qualified for the Colorado State Championships at a 4A regional tournament in Grand Junction Thursday. They are Ibrokhim Nuriddinov, Preston Gautreaux, and Matthew MacEntee.
Coach Jason Scicchitano sent the following update today:
- #1 singles Ibrokhim Nuriddinov won 2nd place and qualified for State
- #2 singles Preston Gautreaux won 2nd place and qualified for State
- #3 singles Captain Matthew MacEntee won 3rd place and qualified for State
- #1 doubles Gabriel Merage and Captain Garrett Moyer won 4th place
- #2 doubles Hank Ince and Jackson Tormey played well but didn’t place
- #3 doubles Will Volk and Coen Dore won 3rd place
- #4 doubles Ryan Becker and Mitchell McClarney fought hard but didn’t place
Coach Scicchitano writes, “This was our best showing in boys tennis in years, with three out of seven lines qualifying for state.”
The State Championships are in Pueblo Oct. 16-18.
The regional tournament was at Colorado Mesa University and Canyon View Park in Grand Junction.
