A group of students in Yampa were recognized by the Yampa Town Board at their meeting Wednesday night.
The South Routt Home School Group organized, “Trick or Treat so Others can Eat.” It was a Halloween Food Drive for Yampa and Oak Creek. They collected donations for the Community Food Pantry.

The students were recognized by the town board for their leadership and service: Kade, Rhett, Mary Jo & Ellis O’Halloran, Joshua Kindsvater, Chad Werner, Wyatt & Ella Baker, Lark & Von Piano, and Jane & Claire Anstett.
U.S. Senator Michael Bennet also sent letters, commending them for their leadership and generosity. Yampa Administrator/Clerk Sheila Symons added that they were recognized, “…not only as representatives of South Routt, but as young Coloradans making a meaningful impact across the state.”
Symons tells Steamboat Radio News, “These dual honors reflect the pride we all share in their compassion, initiative, and civic spirit. Thank you to the South Routt Home School Group and all the families who contributed to this impactful event. Together, you’ve shown how community and kindness shine brightest when led by our youth.”
