Someone got into two cars in the Silver Spur neighborhood overnight Saturday or early Sunday morning, and stole some items. The Routt County Sheriff’s Office says they think the cars were unlocked because there was no forced entry, and they want to remind residents to always lock your vehicle doors. The investigation is ongoing.

 

Steamboat Resort opened for the season Saturday morning. Skiers and riders lined up at Wild Blue Gondola to be taken to the slopes at the top of the mountain. They then had to download. Steamboat Resort President Dave Hunter presented a $50,000 check to Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, and $20,000 each to Routt County Crisis Support, and Friends of Colorado Avalanche Information Center – CAIC.

 

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Colorado has announced they are opening a club in South Routt County. Details are being finalized, but the program will take over management of the current after-school program at SoRoCo Middle School in Oak Creek. It will be known as the South Routt Club of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Colorado.

All-day programming for kids six years old through 5th grade will be offered on Fridays, days when there is no school, and a summer camp, beginning Jan. 5. Middle school programming will be added at a later date.

Registration will begin in early December at bgcnwc.org.

The cost will be the same at the other local Boys & Girls Clubs. There is an annual membership of $25. After-school is free. Fridays and school days off is $15. Summer camp is $70/week. Scholarships will be available.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Colorado currently has clubs in Steamboat Springs and Craig/Moffat County.

If you’re planning to cut down your own Christmas Tree, you’ll need to get a permit. Those permits are now available from the Bureau of Land Management. The cost for a permit is between $8-$10, depending on the type of tree available.

Christmas tree permits for the White River National Forest are available to purchase online through Recreation.gov and in-person at Ranger District Offices.

Fourth graders with an Every Kid Outdoors pass are eligible for a free Christmas tree permit with a $2.50 reservation fee.

In Craig, the deadline to sign up for the Festival of Trees has been extended to Tuesday, Nov. 25. It’s a $30 entry fee. Trees can be set up starting today, at the Chamber Building in Craig. Then the Tree Lighting Ceremony is at 5:30 p.m. next Saturday, Nov. 29, right before the Parade of Lights.

The Western Resilience Center is accepting nominations for the annual Environmental Leadership Awards, formerly the Sustainability Awards. It recognizes individuals, organizations, and partners who are making a lasting impact through climate action, collaboration, and community leadership. Apply through WesternResilience.org before Dec. 5. Nominees should be local to the Yampa Valley. A ceremony will be at Bud Werner Memorial Library on Jan. 22.

CJ Mucklow of North Routt County has been honored at the Colorado Farm Bureau Banquet in Denver tonight, for the Service to Agriculture Award – Outside Farm Bureau. Mucklow served more than 35 years at the CSU Extension Office in various roles, and was the founder of the Routt County 4-H Foundation. Mucklow has volunteered on multiple boards, committees and associations throughout Routt County and Colorado.

The Service to Agriculture Award was started in 1968 and is given to individuals who have exhibited extraordinary service to Colorado agriculture and to the Colorado Farm Bureau.

The Colorado Cattlemen’s Association sends word that applications are now being accepted for the 2026 Colorado Leopold Conservation Award®. The $10,000 award honors ranchers, farmers and forestland owners who go above and beyond in their management of soil health, water quality and wildlife habitat on working land. The deadline to apply is Feb. 6. Link to application

 

 

The Routt County Board of County Commissioners has a work session today. One agenda item is a report from Airport Director Tinneal Gerber with Yampa Valley Regional Airport. Agenda

 

Steamboat Sailors Head Soccer Coach Rob Bohlmann has been named the 3A Soccer Coach of the Year by CHSAA, which is the Colorado High School Athletics Association. Also for the Sailors, Will Heit and Charlie Wiedel were named First Team All-State.

In Cross Country, Sydney Wattles and Haven Carr both made made Second Team All State for Moffat County High School.
