Local residents in support of nonprofits were out along major thoroughfares in Routt and Moffat counties Tuesday for Yampa Valley Gives Day which is part of the statewide effort of Colorado Gives Day. They were doing the “Honk and Wave,” to remind residents to please donate to your favorite local nonprofit. Here’s Kimberly Walker with the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Yampa Valley.
“The Boys & Girls Clubs and all the nonprofits throughout the Yampa Valley are so grateful for the support that we receive from our communities in Routt and Moffat County. This is what makes us so proud to live here.”

Further along Lincoln Ave. is the newly renovated Veterans Center of Northwest Colorado. Here’s Jeff Steck, president of the Veterans Center Board.
“The Colorado Gives Day is the one day of the year that all of the nonprofits in Colorado, especially here in Steamboat Springs, connects with givers from all across the state. It’s very important to us and to all of the nonprofits across town.”
Many nonprofits had matching grants, including The Veterans Center, which had a matching $50K grant from an anonymous donor. Here’s Kent Frederickson.
“Colorado Gives Day is a very important day to us. It is probably our single largest fundraising effort of the year. And it is a great opportunity for people to be able to give at one time through one website and it’s very easy and quick to do.”
Donations were made through ColoradoGives.org. Over one and a quarter million dollars was raised.
