A 33-year-old man living in Oak Creek was arrested at 10th and Lincoln Ave. Tuesday afternoon. Steamboat Police says Cory Silvia was causing a disturbance at Old Town Hot Springs. Officers contacted him and were able to calm him down. But then, according to a press release, Steamboat Police received more information that Silvia had made “significant and serious threats against staff at OTHS via social media.”
Those posts were reviewed and investigators determined there was probably cause for several criminal charges. A SSPD detective in an unmarked police vehicle saw Silvia walking on Lincoln Ave near 10th Street and he was arrested without incident.
Silvia was booked into the Routt County Jail for menacing, harassment, cyber bullying, and disorderly conduct. SSPD does not believe there is any further threat to OTHS nor any staff.
All persons accused of crimes are presumed innocent until and unless their guilt is established beyond a reasonable doubt in court.

Toys and gifts from Routt County are headed down to Children’s Hospital in Denver on Friday morning. It’s part of Mickey’s Fund, created over 40 years ago by the late ski legend Jim “Moose” Barrows, in memory of his young son, Mickey.
The toys are there to help children who are at Children’s Hospital for long hospital stays over the holidays. Some are terminally ill.
Here’s Moose’s sister, Nancy Gray.
“My brother, Moose, started this fund 40 years ago after his son died, and decided that parents with children in the hospital need a place to go shopping for their kids, so this is called the Snowpile at Children’s Hospital.”
The toys go into a special toy room where parents can “shop” for free for gifts that might bring normalcy to their child in the hospital, and any other children that might be with them.
Toys are being accepted through the end of day this Thursday, Dec. 18. They can be dropped off at Steamboat Sotheby’s in Wildhorse Plaza or at the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club in Olympian Hall.
Donations are also being accepted. Checks can be made out to Children’s Hospital Colorado Foundation, noting “Mickey’s Fund” in the memo. Checks can be dropped off at the Steamboat Sotheby’s front desk, c/o Bobby Aldighieri.
From Moose’s family: “Thank you for helping make the holidays a little brighter for children and families who need it most.”

There is a new Pine Beetle Outbreak. This time it is more on the Front Range instead of the Western Slope, which happened back in the late 90s, through about 2013. Governor Polis has set up a new task force to protect Colorado forests and communities from the mountain pine beetle. This will include critical wildfire mitigation in Front Range communities.
Those coming together include: Governor Polis, Department of Natural Resources, Division of Fire Prevention and Control, Colorado State Forest Service, U.S. Forest Service, and Local Governments
