Yampa Valley Electric Association is updating power outages throughout Northwest Colorado. Follow their post for more updates. LINK: Yampa Valley Electric Facebook

Update from Carly Davidson, the Public Relations Specialist with Yampa Valley Electric, at 11:10 a.m.

We have three larger outages throughout the territory, as well as several smaller outages we are working to clear through.

On Yahmonite Street, we are working on clearing trees from lines and will make repairs when we get those trees clears. We are estimating these members will be out until 2 pm.

In Strawberry Park, we have seven trees go through a portion of our line. Initial assessments is it is just a line down that we will need to rehang, but because of the location of the downed trees, it is taking longer to clear those trees. Similar to Yahmonite, we are anticipating this restoration to still take a few hours and are hoping for power to be back on this afternoon.

We have a broken pole on 44 that is requiring us sending an excavator out to help us set a pole, due to challenging ground conditions. This repair will also take several hours.

There are other smaller outages that we are currently working through. We are gradually rotating out our crews to give our crews a much needed rest, and are bringing in the crews who have been on rest to take over.

UPDATE from Steamboat Radio: Several of our stations were knocked off the air due to the wind, but we’re back on.

From Yampa Valley Electric Facebook

9:10 a.m: We are working on clearing trees from lines on Yahmonite Street in downtown Steamboat Springs, and we are estimating members in this area should plan on being without power for another four hours. Thank you for your patience!
8:50 a.m.: We were able to isolate the outage in Milner and restore power to some of the members in the area. We will work to get the rest of the members in Milner back on as we work on repairs. We have a broken pole on 44 that we will need to repair, trees in the line South Routt that we are patrolling and clearing. We have additional crews that are coming off of rest to assist with restoration, as well as Nate’s Tree Trimming Service to help with the clearing lines.
We wanted to give a huge shout out to our first responders in Rout and Moffat County. They were helping us by reporting outages, reporting down lines, and working alongside with our crews last night. We appreciate your support during this incredibly challenging weather event.

7:50 a.m.  Our crews have been working through the night, and we have brought in additional crews to assist us with the restoration for the roughly 700 members who are still without power this morning.
We know how frustrating a power outage, especially an extended outage, can be for our members. Please know that no matter the time of day or conditions, our teams are working hard to restore power to you as soon as possible.
Last night, we saw extended outages due to the number of trees in lines and sustained wind speeds that lasted longer than originally forecast. Last night, due to the dangerous conditions, we wanted to ensure the lines were clear of debris and undamaged before re-energizing them. Even while we were in a holding pattern due to conditions, our crews were working to clear downed trees and proactively patrolling, so that as soon as conditions allowed, we could re-energize lines.
All of this is to say that we want you to know you are not alone during these power outages. We are right here with you, doing everything possible to get your lights back on. The safety of our communities and crews is always our top priority, so while we try to work as quickly as possible, our crews take the time necessary to make repairs safely.
Thank you to our members for letting us know where trees were in the lines, where there were outages, and for your patience during this time. We truly appreciate you.
A huge thank you to our crew and staff who have been working throughout the night on this and for continuing the restoration efforts this morning. We are lucky to have such dedicated team members to serve such an incredible community.
1 a.m.: our crews are working to remove trees and make repairs while we wait for the wind to die down. As soon as it is safe to do so, we will begin restoring power to our members, but we currently do not have an estimated time for restoration. Thank you for your patience with us as we work to get the power back on!
11:37 p.m.: We have been able to restore power to the members impacted by the outage near the airport in Hayden. We are continuing to patrol and clear lines throughout Steamboat.
9 p.m.: we have lost 1,000 more meters in Steamboat. We will post updates as we restore power, but are anticipating we could lose more members as the winds continue to increase.
8:42 p.m.: we have an additional outage from the Bob Adam’s airport, north up to Clark.
8:28 p.m.: we have called in additional crews to help us with restoration. There have been a few smaller outages, including the Strawberry Park area, since our previous post. Our crews are working on the larger outages and and will work their way through the smaller ones. We thank you for your continued patience.
7:17 p.m.: we have an additional outage in Clark now, and will work on restoration as soon as we can. We ask members to prepare for longer outage times, as we have multiple outages we are dealing with. Thank you for your patience!
7:01 p.m.: we have a large outage west of Steamboat, starting at roughly the KOA, going west to Milner and surrounding areas. We are experiencing significant blinks throughout the service territory, as well as several smaller outages. Our crews are assembling and will work to address these outages.

Steamboat Radio Updates from YVEA

9:18 p.m. from Yampa Valley Electric: YVEA is implementing a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) for Steamboat Springs. We will be turning off power in order to keep our communities safe during this wind event. During a PSPS, members should anticipate an outage that could last overnight, due to YVEA crews needing to inspect lines that have lost power. When it is safe for our crews to begin restoration, we will bring turning the power back into on. Thank you for your understanding as we work through this storm!

9:16 p.m. Yes, a Public Safety Power Shutoff is happening for the immediate Steamboat Springs area.

9:10 p.m. YVEA that they could be implementing a public safety power shutoff for Steamboat, which means turning off electricity. We’ll keep you posted.

Also, YVEA writes, “We have almost 3,000 members out currently. We will work on restoring the larger outages first, and working our way through the remaining outages. We are asking members to prepare for longer duration outages as we are chasing a lot of outages throughout Steamboat, Clark, South Routt now. We are calling in additional crews to help with restoration.”
