Be aware of heavy traffic if you’re traveling. Colorado Department of Transportation says all statewide construction projects are stopping at noon today with no work on Christmas Day. Same with New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day next week.
CDOT has sent statistics from last year on this day. The vehicle count in the Eisenhower/Johnson Memorial Tunnels on the day before Christmas was 32,495. Christmas Day was a bit less at 28,177 vehicles. The day after Christmas, so Dec. 26 a year ago, the number jumps to 46,011 vehicles traveling through the tunnels on I-70.
The I-70 Mountain Express Lanes are open every day through Sunday, Jan. 4, for westbound traffic. Hours are 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. And Monday, Jan. 5, for Eastbound traffic. Hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
