Uphill access is permitted at Steamboat Resort starting this Friday, Jan. 2. All users must follow uphill access policies, and have an Uphill Access Armband. Proceeds from that are donated to local nonprofits each year. Stay on designated routes that are on the Steamboat resort website. Respect signs and closures. Resort crews are working to open more terrain.

Press Release from Steamboat Resort; Dec. 31, 2025.

Media Alert: Uphill Access Begins Friday and a Reminder on Closed Terrain

Uphill Access is permitted at Steamboat Resort beginning Friday, January 2. All users must adhere to the Uphill Access policy and purchase an uphill armband. A portion of the proceeds is donated to local nonprofit organizations each year. Resort crews continue to work diligently to open terrain and users should remain aware and alert that they could encounter heavy machinery or working crews at any time. Please stick to the designated route outlined on the resort website and respect all signage and closures.

As we navigate seasonal conditions at the Resort, Steamboat Ski Patrol will use a combination of signs, ropes, and bamboo to indicated areas are closed. Guests are responsible for knowing which runs are open and closed, and respecting all trail closures. Similar to other resort trails and areas, traversing from an open run to a closed run/area is a violation. If guests are unsure, they should not enter unless confirmed on the website, app, or by asking a Resort representative. Failure to respect closures may result in suspension or loss of resort access and possibly a fine.

Steamboat Resort operates on a lease from the United States Forest Service (USFS) which assumes responsibility for maintaining terrain in our permit boundary. When conditions dictate, it is within our right to close areas or limit access to terrain within the Resort, even if that means closing gate access to the USFS lands outside of our boundary. We work diligently to open our terrain in a safe manner and to provide this access as soon as safely possible.

Thank you for helping us keep the mountain safe for our staff, community and guests.
