You may see smoke up on Emerald Mountain today. A prescribed burn is planned, weather and conditions permitting. Steamboat Springs Fire Department will be there to monitor the burning which is part of an ongoing fuels-mitigation effort to reduce wildfire risk and improve community safety. The fire department says it is not an emergency and asks that you do not call 911.

You can now reserve a parking spot in the Upper Knoll parking lot at Steamboat Resort. Rates start at $22 a day and must be made by 10 p.m. the night before. If you organize a carpool through the Steamboat Carpool app,  you could also be eligible for a guaranteed parking space in the Knoll Lot. You must have three people in your car and 25 pre-arranged spots will be available each day.

The Knoll Lot will still be a free lot, operating on a first come, first served basis. But now there will be a limited number of carpool and reservation spaces available every day.

The lower Knoll Triangle lot closes Monday, Jan. 5 through Jan. 10.

There is still free parking in the eastern half of the Knoll Lot, and down at the Meadows Lot. Paid parking is available in the Gondola Square Parking Structure.
