Eight people were in a stolen vehicle that was part of a high-speed chase Wednesday. It started when the vehicle was pulled over by Delta Police for not having plates. It sped off, and was then spotted in Moffat County. The Sheriff’s Office tried to stop it as it headed towards Hayden. Hayden Police Chief Scott Scurlock tried to use stop sticks and a tactical maneuver, and the vehicle ended up in a ditch, where six of the eight people got out and started running across a field, according to Chief Scurlock.
“It was a good day in law enforcement. You know, we all get in law enforcement, because at the base level, we all like helping people. And so, in this particular instance, the joint efforts of Moffat County Sheriff’s Office, Colorado State Patrol, and Hayden Police, we were able to safely bring this vehicle pursuit to an end. Nobody sustained any great injuries other than some cut hands from jumping barbed wire fences.
And, you know, the good, good guys won today. The person who had their vehicle stolen down around the Grand Junction area, Delta area, gets their vehicle back. The people who are alleged to have been responsible for it are, are in handcuffs and, it’s a good day.”
Of the eight people, two adults are in the Moffat County Jail, one adult was released, and five juveniles are in custody of the Department of Human Services. None of them are from Moffat County.
It is a multi-jurisdictional investigation.

Colorado State Patrol and 59 local law enforcement agencies are starting The Heat Is On Winter Blitz DUI enforcement period today (Thursday, Jan. 8), to run through Jan. 21. Drivers may see extra patrols and sobriety checkpoints, to help arrest impaired drivers and keep Colorado roads safe.
Last year 34% of traffic deaths involved an impaired driver, which is higher than the national average of 30%, as calculated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Preliminary data shows that 234 people died in crashes involving an impaired driver in Colorado last year. That’s down 18% from 2022, but it is still a contributing factor in Colorado traffic deaths.
