
It’s MLK Weekend in the ‘Boat with community-led celebrations all weekend long honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
It’s a collaborative effort, hosted by Steamboat Ski Resort, with Heart of Steamboat Church, Steamboat Creates, Off the Beaten Path bookstore, Mountain Tap Brewery, STAND, Wildhorse Cinema + Arts, Bud Werner Memorial Library, and Lamont Joseph White .
The weekend is also a fundraiser for the National Brotherhood of Skiers. Ikon passholders can unlock their passes Jan. 17-18 by making a $100 donation or more to NBS.

Steamboat Ski Resort Partners with Renowned Snowsports Artist Lamont Joseph White & Community Organizations
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, CO – January 9, 2025 – Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation (SSRC) in collaboration with Heart of Steamboat Church, Steamboat Creates, Off the Beaten Path bookstore, Mountain Tap Brewery, STAND, Wildhorse Cinema + Arts, Bud Werner Memorial Library, and Lamont Joseph White are pleased to announce the lineup for the third-annual MLK Weekend in the ‘Boat with community-led celebrations all weekend long honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
“SSRC is deeply committed to cultivating an inclusive culture in our industry,” said Dave Hunter, president and chief operating officer for SSRC. “We believe that the mountains are for everyone and are proud to partner with Steamboat businesses, nonprofits, and Lamont Joseph White to celebrate the legacy of Dr. King by creating a dialogue of inclusion in the ski and snowboard industry.”
SSRC’s partnership with acclaimed ski‑industry artist Lamont Joseph White includes the commissioning of an exclusive series of original works that will debut during the MLK Weekend in the ‘Boat celebrations and appear throughout the season. White’s artwork is widely recognized across the ski and snowboard world for its focus on representation, identity, and joy.
“It’s a true honor to share my paintings with the Steamboat Springs community,” said White. “My hope is that this work invites us to share space with people beyond our usual circles and to grow and learn from one another.
Part of the MLK Weekend in the ‘Boat initiatives also include a fundraiser for the National Brotherhood of Skiers (NBS). Ikon Base Pass and Session Pass holders can unlock their passes during the January 17-18 blocked-out dates by making a $100 or more donation to NBS. Since this initiative began in 2024, $85,500 has been raised for NBS through this program.

Month of January: Visiting Artist Lamont Joseph White Debuts Exhibit Visibility / Possibility | Depot Art Center
A new year, a new exhibition, a new voice at the Depot Art Center. Visibility / Possibility features nationally recognized artist Lamont Joseph White alongside emerging local artists from the Young Bloods Collective, who created original works in response to his vision of diversity, representation, and belonging in mountain culture. The free exhibition is on view throughout January.
Thursday, January 15th: Civil Rights Trivia | 6 PM | Mountain Tap Brewery
Trivia night celebrating the civil rights movement and the new Soulful Summit Session IPA
Friday, January 16th: Steamboat Creates Presents: Dinner & Art Talk | 5 PM | Depot Art Center – Ticket Required
Join us for an unforgettable MLK Weekend celebration in Steamboat—an evening where art, food, and community come together in a truly immersive experience. The evening will feature a soul food dinner inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s favorite dishes, with recipes curated by James Beard Award–winning author and celebrity culinary historian Adrian Miller. Adrian will be on site to guide guests through the meal, sharing the history, meaning, and cultural stories behind each course, paired with thoughtfully selected wines served throughout dinner. Saturday, January 17th & Sunday, January 18th: Unlock Ikon Base Pass
Ikon Base Pass and Session Passes are blocked out January 17-18; skiers and riders who donate $100 to National Brotherhood of Skiers will unlock their base pass during these days and can ski/ride. Unlocking your pass uses one of your five allocated Steamboat days and if you donate two days that will use two days. $100 donation per day. Bring your NBS donation receipt to the Steamboat Ticket Office to unlock your pass.
Saturday, January 17th: Shift Tha Culture Screening | 4 PM | Wildhorse Cinema
Free short film screening of Shift Tha Culture. This 15-minute short film follows pro snowboarder Zeb Powell on a deeply personal journey of self-discovery and cultural impact. Set against the backdrop of Burton’s annual Culture Shifters event, the film explores Powell’s evolving connection to his Black identity and his mission to bring diversity to the mountains. Following the screening, attendees will enjoy a Q&A session with filmmaker, Malik Martin.
Sunday, January 18th: Ski with a Meteorologist
