The name of the 71-year-old woman who died Thursday night in a head-on crash on Rabbit Ears Pass has been released by Jackson County Coroner George Crocket. She is Rebecca Brooks. Crockett says she was a nurse who recently moved to Craig from the Front Range.

Colorado State Patrol says Brooks was pronounced “deceased at the scene.”

The crash happened at 5:32 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at Mile Marker 156 on US Highway 40, according to Colorado State Patrol. This is on the Jackson County portion of Rabbit Ears Pass.

CSP confirms two vehicles were involved. The driver of the other vehicle (a Nissan Titan) was a 27-year-old male who was transported to the hospital.

Highway 40 was shut down at 6:11 p.m. that night, until 2:53 a.m. when Routt County Dispatch sent a notice that the highway had reopened.

The Colorado State Patrol Vehicular Crimes Unit is the lead investigating agency. If you witnessed this crash and have not spoken to investigators, please contact Colorado State Patrol dispatch at (970) 249-4392 and reference VC260042.

Our condolences to the family.
