A Winter Storm Warning is in effect until late Wednesday or through very early Thursday morning. The National Weather service says heavy snow is expected especially in the Steamboat Springs area, with between 10 and 20 inches possible. Wind gusts could reach 60 miles per hour throughout Northwest Colorado, especially today. This could damage some trees. The forecast also says there could be some snow thunder today. Traffic will be difficult to impossible according to the National Weather Service. Be careful driving. Check road conditions through Colorado Department of Transportation at CoTrip.org

The entire online system for the Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has been upgraded. Online services should be re-opening today. Moffat County DMV says they will re-open today but expect delays. The Routt County office is open today from noon to 3:30 p.m. and will resume regular business hours on Wednesday. The Routt County Board of County Commissioners meets today. One agenda item is the proclamation of Greater Sandhill Crane Week. Sandrock Elementary Principal Julie Spencer in the Moffat County School District has announced her retirement. Recruiting for a new principal has begun. A Community Focus Group for input on a new principal is at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, in the Sandrock Cafeteria.
The Yampa River Fund has announced they are accepting grant applications starting today. The fund has $267,022 available for grants this year. Projects considered for funding need to enhance water security in communities throughout the Yampa Valley, and help support a healthy, flowing river. The deadline to apply is April 1. U.S. Senators Michael Bennet and John Hickenlooper have sent a letter to the president of the International Olympic Committee, Kirsty Coventry, in support of Nordic Combined in the Winter Olympics. Steamboat Nordic Combined athletes Alexa Brabec and Annika Malacinski would have represented TEAM USA, and would have had a very good chance to medal. But Nordic Combined is the only Winter Olympic sport that excludes women.

The Steamboat Sailors Hockey team is headed to the CHSAA 4A State Playoffs as the #4 seed. The Sailors face #5 seeded Cheyenne Mountain with a HOME GAME at 6:30 p.m. this Wednesday, Feb. 25, at Howelsen Ice Arena. The Sailors are the defending 4A State Champions.
