Steamboat Springs Police is asking for the public’s help with someone who attempted a jackpotting incident from an ATM at Yampa Valley Bank, around 10:30 p.m. Sunday night. That’s where a hacker tries to install malware or a “black box” device onto an ATM, then all of the cash comes out. If you saw anything suspicious, please reach out to Officer Copeland at Steamboat Springs Police.
Your monthly energy bill is going up. Yampa Valley Electric Association has announced a rate increase that goes into effect April 15. Residential rates are going up by 5.4%. For the average household, that’s an increase of $7.80 per month, according to YVEA. The last rate increase was in 2024.

The Routt County Board of County Commissioners has their regular meeting today. Routt County Public Health Director Roberta Smith is on the agenda to present an intergovernmental agreement for Emergency Preparedness with Eagle County Public Health. Other agenda items include discussion on a restroom remodel at the Routt County Fairgrounds in Hayden. United Way of the Yampa Valley is hosting a financial classes as part of the Western Slope Opportunity Project, which is for workers and families impacted by coal facility closures, including mines, power plants and supply chain companies. It’s at 6:30 p.m. today at the Hayden Center in Hayden.
Then on Wednesday, United Way of the Yampa Valley is offering Red Cross Shelter Training. It’s from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, March, 4, at Bud Werner Memorial Library. Tough loss for the Steamboat Sailors Hockey team Monday night, in the CHSAA State High School Ice Hockey finals. The Sailors lost to Pine Creek, 6-3, finishing second in the state this year, for 4A.



Steamboat Springs High School Class of 2020 graduate, Maggi Congdon, was on national television this weekend, competing in the 800 meters at the 2026 USATF Indoor Championships. The U.S. Ski & Snowboard U16 Rocky/Central Alpine Junior Championships start Wednesday in Steamboat Springs, (March 4-8). Racing is at Steamboat Ski Resort and Howelsen Hill. About 100 of the top qualifying U16 ski racers, ages 14-15, from the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Rocky and Central Alpine Divisions will compete for regional titles in downhill, super-G, giant slalom, slalom, alpine combined, and team parallel. That includes 11 from Steamboat Springs. Athletes representing 18 states, from Michigan west to Arizona, are here.
