Colorado Parks and Wildlife has suspended its efforts for lethal removal of an uncollared wolf in Rio Blanco County. That wolf had met the agency’s definition for chronic depredation in the amount of animals it was responsible for killing, in a certain amount of time. CPW searched from Jan. 24 through Feb. 22 using drones and thermal imaging and couldn’t find it.

Be bear aware. Keep Bears Wild – Steamboat is reporting two bear sightings, on Steamboat Blvd. and in Steamboat II, of a couple of bears waking up from winter hibernation and looking for food. Keep your car doors locked.

Congratulations to Makinly Long from SoRoCo High School. Her drawing has been chosen as the logo for this year’s 112th Routt County Fair. The theme is “Celebrating the Bounty of Routt County.” Makinly is a junior at SoRoCo High School and she wins a Yeti Cooler from the Routt County Fair, for having the winning drawing. Long is also a longtime participant in the fair.

Be careful out there driving. Colorado State Patrol has started a St. Patrick’s Day DUI Enforcement crackdown through next Wednesday, March 18. There are 67 local law enforcement agencies across the state participating in the latest Heat is On Campaign.
Also Friday, The Phoenix is a national group that promotes sobriety. They have a list of local sober events this weekend including climbing from 5-7 p.m. today at Steamboat Climbing Collective. CrossFit at 9:15 p.m. tomorrow morning at Steamboat CrossFit and a Pizza PingPong Pickleball Party at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Sunday has bowling at SnowBowl.

The 4th annual Crane Migration Celebration is 5:30-8 p.m. Friday, March 13, at the Depot Art Center in Steamboat Springs. It’s a fundraiser for the Colorado Crane Conservation Coalition.

The Hayden Lions Club is hosting a St. Patrick’s Day Dinner from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, March 13, at the Hayden Center, 495 W. Jefferson Ave. It’s $12 for a Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner. Kids 10 and under eat free.

The Steamboat Springs School District is offering free developmental screenings for children ages 3–5 who are not yet in kindergarten. That’s today from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the district office on 7th Street.

Saturday, the Steamboat Running Series kicks off the 2026 season with the Luck of the Irish 7K run, to benefit the Cross Country, and Track & Field Programs at Steamboat Springs Middle School. The run is at 9 a.m. at the middle school. More information is at RunningSeries.com

Off the Beaten Path bookstore is hosting a book signing Saturday afternoon. Michael Bourne is the author of We Bring You an Hour of Darkness. It is a ski town thriller about the conflicts between an eco-terrorist group, a ski corporation and the towns folk. He’ll be at the bookstore in Steamboat Springs (68 9th Street) at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, March 14th.

A discussion of Native American Recollections is at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, March 15, in the Toponas Hall. The presentation is about “Archeological Traces of Ute Life in Egeria Park and the Flat Tops Wilderness.” There will be stories, photographs and memories recognizing the long-standing Ute presence in the area. All are invited and refreshments will be served. This is part of the Toponas History Talks series.
High School Sports…
The Moffat County, Hayden, and Steamboat Sailors Track and Field Teams are at a meet in Rifle today.
The Steamboat girls tennis team has a home match against Vail Christian today.
The Sailors Boys Lacrosse game has a 10:30 a.m. game Saturday morning against Eagle Valley, at home.
Then at 1 p.m., the Sailors Girls Soccer team hosts Rock Canyon, also at Steamboat Springs High School.
