The male osprey has flown back to its nest along the Core Trail at Yampa River Botanic Park. It got here Wednesday, March 25, according to those at the park, after flying all the way from Central and South America, where it spends its winter.
It will now wait for its female mate to arrive any day now. Julia Schiemann, with Yampa River Botanic Park, writes, “Although male and female ospreys migrate separately, they mate for life and will return to the same nest each year.”
Schiemann adds, “For the past 10 consecutive years, he has returned to this same nest. This will be the osprey pair’s 11th season here as they were first spotted in the nest on May 1, 2016.”
