A 78-year-old man from Utah is in the Carbon County Jail in Rawlins, Utah, tonight. Tom Piantes was arrested for an alleged attempted burglary in progress, at a rancher’s home in North Moffat County. This was on North Highway 13 near the Wyoming border. The 911 call came in at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. The rancher reported encountering Piantes in his home and he discovered multiple firearms had been stolen.

A press release from the Moffat County Sheriff’s Office says the suspect fled north into Wyoming. Sheriff’s officers received help from Wyoming Highway Patrol, Carbon County Sheriff’s officers, and residents of Baggs.

A search of the car resulted in the recovery of all of the stolen firearms taken during the burglary.

The Moffat County Sheriff’s Office will also be seeking an arrest warrant for Piantes.
