Fresh Pavement, Fresh Start – 2026 Street Work Gets Rolling
Annual Paving Program Targets A Dozen Streets, Alleys and Parking Areas
Steamboat Springs, Colorado-April 27, 2026-From freeze-thaw cycles in winter to heat and heavy use in summer, Steamboat Springs roadways face year-round wear that gradually deteriorates pavement. The city’s annual paving program addresses this ongoing impact, ensuring continued maintenance of the roadway system to keep streets safe, smooth, and reliable for the community.
“Routine pavement maintenance plays a critical role in protecting the city’s infrastructure,” said Street Superintendent David Van Winkle. “Addressing wear early helps extend the life of roadways, improve driving conditions, and avoid more costly repairs or full reconstruction down the line—saving taxpayer dollars over time.”
Work is scheduled to begin May 11, with paving anticipated to wrap up around June 20. Striping will immediately follow, beginning on June 22 and is expected to take two to three days. Weather conditions may impact the schedule.
United Companies, awarded the nearly $2.1 million open bid contract, will place approximately 8,160 tons of asphalt and remove more than 73,000 square yards of existing pavement millings across eight streets, two alleys, and two parking lots. Milling is expected to take about five days, with paving operations continuing for approximately two weeks.
