Nominations for the 79th annual Tony Awards were announced in New York by stage and screen performers Uzo Aduba and Darren Criss. Organized by The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing, the awards honor excellence across 26 competitive categories, with nominees chosen by a panel of theater professionals. The eligibility window for this Broadway season ran from April 28, 2025, through April 26, 2026, with around 30 productions qualifying. Winners will be selected by 857 Tony voters from across the theater community.
Leading the nominations this year are The Lost Boys and Schmigadoon! with 12 nominations each, including Best New Musical. Close behind is Ragtime with 11 nods, while Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman, Cats: The Jellicle Ball, and Richard O’Brien’s The Rocky Horror Show each earned nine.
In the race for Best New Musical, Titanique and Two Strangers Carry a Cake Across New York join the two frontrunners. For Best Revival of a Musical, nominees include Cats: The Jellicle Ball, Ragtime, and Richard O’Brien’s The Rocky Horror Show.
The Best Play category features The Balusters, Giant, Liberation, and Little Bear Ridge Road. Meanwhile, contenders for Best Revival of a Play include Death of a Salesman, Beck Shaw, Every Brilliant Thing, Fallen Angels, and Oedipus.
Among notable snubs and surprises, Lea Michele and Adrien Brody were absent from the acting nominations. However, Rose Byrne achieved a rare milestone, earning both an Oscar nomination (for ‘If I Had Legs I’d Kick You’) and a Tony nomination (for ‘Fallen Angels’) in the same year. In another surprise, two plays—Joe Turner’s Come and Gone and Death of a Salesman—received recognition for their original scores, incorporating blues-inspired music to enhance their storytelling.
The ceremony, hosted by P!nk, will take place at Radio City Music Hall on June 7. The event will air live on CBS and stream on Paramount+ from 8–11 p.m. ET, bringing Broadway’s biggest celebration to audiences nationwide.
