The White River Museum in Meeker is adding two forges so they can have forging demonstrations at the museum. Forging was an important trade in the late 1800s, that allowed the residents to survive in towns like Meeker that were isolated, and only accessible by wagons.
Here’s Teresia Reed, who is the Executive Director of the Rio Blanco County Historical Society, and a 4th generation resident.
Longtime Meeker resident Walt Proctor is making the two forges to donate to the museum in Meeker. They’ll probably be there next week. He’ll then lead forging classes.
