Snowy weather makes slippery roads, especially for a Steamboat school bus this morning. Bus #15 did a “slow-moving 180” and slipped into the ditch on Fish Creek Falls Road Friday morning. All the kids were OK. Steamboat Springs School District Transportation Director Casey Ungs says it was because of some glazed ice on the road.
One parent told Steamboat Radio that the kids on the bus were checked out by school nurses when they got to school. The school district confirms no one was hurt.
Ungs says the buses weigh about 26-thousand pounds so don’t follow too close on snowy days in case they have to make a quick stop. He says the Steamboat buses have drop-down chains and always above the required minimum standard on tire tread with the best snow tires.
Ungs wants to thank the Steamboat community for being patient on snowy winter days, especially in the mornings.
The Steamboat Springs School District runs 13 routes and a special needs route, transporting about 650 students per day.
