High school seniors in Moffat and Routt Counties are encouraged to apply for a scholarship inspired by the sandhill cranes. It’s the Colorado Crane Conservation Coalition’s Crane-Inspired Creative Arts Scholarship Contest. Submissions can be written or visual and the scholarships are as much as $3,000 for the winners. Turn them in by March 25. School counselors have the details.   Or submit online

Here’s more from the Colorado Crane Conservation Coalition.

$10,000 in Scholarships for the Crane-inspired Creative Arts Scholarship Contest

The Colorado Crane Conservation Coalition, Inc. (CCCC) invites all high school seniors in Routt and Moffat counties to submit an original piece of writing or visual art inspired by our Rocky Mountain Population of Greater Sandhill Cranes to the CCCC Crane-Inspired Creative Arts Scholarship Contest.

The 2022 contest offers TWO categories of art:

  • Category 1: Written Arts.  A nonfictional essay or fictional story of 750-1500 words or a group of three poems.
  • Category 2: Visual Arts.  A painting, sketch, photograph or digital art.

The work must be original and accurately reflect the physical characteristics, behavior, and habitat of our Rocky Mountain Greater Sandhill Cranes. CCCC will accept only one entry per student. The deadline for submission is MARCH 25, 2022.  No late entries will be accepted.

The First-Place winner in each category will receive a $3,000 scholarship.  The Second-Place winner in each category will receive a $1,500 scholarship.  An Honorable Mention winner from any of the categories will receive a $1,000 scholarship.

The scholarship awards are contingent on the winner’s acceptance into a continuing education institution. If the winner is not registered by November 1 of the year of the award, the scholarship will be awarded in sequence to a runner-up who qualifies.

For contest information, check with your school counselor or go to: coloradocranes.org/creative-arts-scholarship-contest

CCCC thanks our generous donor, Gail Jensen, for making these scholarships possible.

The 2022 Yampa Valley Festival is Sept 1-4 in Steamboat Springs and Hayden, CO with daily crane viewings, speakers, films, crane art, workshops, family activities and more.
